Analysis of China's Steel Import Situation ——China's steel import situation

From 2011 to 2019, China's steel imports decreased in fluctuations, but the decline was relatively small. In 2020, China's steel import volume resumed its growth trend, reaching 20.23 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 64.47%. This is mainly due to various reasons such as technology. Imported products are mainly made of special steel, high-grade alloy steel, and other steel products. There is still a certain degree of import dependence on such products in China; In addition, the improvement of the domestic epidemic and the rapid recovery of demand have led to a significant increase in imports, reaching a new high in nearly a decade. From 2021 to 2022, China's steel imports have significantly decreased, mainly due to the intersection of multiple factors such as high inflation and energy crisis, resulting in a significant increase in the cost of steel imports, which is not conducive to steel imports. In 2022, China's steel imports reached 10.57 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 25.93%, the lowest level since 1993.
